Using the ManukaCare 18+

One of our most popular products is the Comvita ManukaCare 18+ - a tube of sterilised manuka honey for external wound use.

A few people contact us afterwards to complain that when they opened the tube, quite a lot of the honey gushed out of the tube, catching them by surprise.

This is actually a function of the packaging. It is a specially designed tube, called a positive flow tube. It is to enable the honey to come out easier, so you can concentrate on where you are putting it, now on squeezing so much. The downside is that there can be an initial spurt of the honey when the tube is first opened, and this does catch out a few people.

There has been a warning added to the packaging, on the end of the carton (where you open it), however this is still missed by some.

So just be a little prepared when you come to open a new tube, and don't try squeezing it at all (or holding too firmly) at the start.

It may be a little messy sometimes, but this sterilised ManukaCare 18+ is great for your wound, leg ulcer, and burn use.

There is also around 10-15% of people experience a stinging sensation when first applying it, but this generally subsides.

New Huni Skincare products added.

They're here. The new products in the Huni skincare range have arrived in our shop - yesterday actually, so are now on the shelf in store, and today have added them to our website.

You can see the full range of Huni skin care here

The new products in the range are:
All Day Hand and Nail cream
Intensive Hydrating Mask
Anytime Lip Treatment
Eye cream

There are also a couple of gift sets available too, which combine 4 of the moisturising and cleanser products. We have these in our store, but have to work out the practicalities of being able to post them out before adding them to the website - they are packaged up in a gift box.

We got to see these new Huni products a few weeks ago when visiting Comvita headquarters in New Zealand, and are now very proud to be one of the first to have them available in the UK.

If you haven't tried the Huni skincare range before, if you are in the UK, visit our website and send us a quick email, we do have a few sample sachets of the moisturisers that we can send out on request.

Visit to Comvita HQ in New Zealand

For the past two weeks a couple of us have been visiting New Zealand, and was a great opportunity to meet up with suppliers first hand.

Made a visit to the headquarters of Comvita at Paeangaroa, a little south of Tauranga in the Bay of Plenty. Was really good to chat with some people there, and get a glimpse of the actual processing of the manuka honey into jars (wasn't able to get too close as its all done in a proper hygienic environment).

Passed a some direct feedback from our customers with regard to the packaging of some products, mainly the round jars from the UMF20+ honey.

Was also interesting to have a look around their visitor centre, and see a few of the new products that we may be able to get here in the UK in future.

It all confirmed our reasons for stocking the Comvita manuka honey. They are focussed on being a quality health products company, with the emphasis on quality of product, rather than being a honey company trying to find ways to sell more honey.

Manuka Honey in Germany

The New Zealand Honey Shop is please to say that progress has been made with our new German website. Keeping the same The New Zealand Honey Shop name, it will provide an information source for "Manuka Honig" and offer the same quality Comvita range of products to people in Germany and other German speakers in Europe.

While there is still further translation work to be done, the new site is now operational, and we are pleased to allow our German customers the option of using either our English or German language site.

If anyone has any feedback on the German translation provided, we would welcome all comments, as our aim is to provide the best information in German as possible.

We would also just like to take this chance to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas, and a Happy and Healthy New Year.

UMF25+ Manuka Honey now back in stock

Yes, after quite a few months absence, we are pleased to say that once again we have some of Comvita's UMF25+ Manuka Honey back in stock and available to order.

As production is dependent on nature, there is only a small amount of manuka honey that is produced each year that properly reaches the UMF25+ level. This is why it is not available all the time. While we do now have it in stock again, we cannot be sure how long our supplies will last, and this item will not necessarily be available all year round.

Often you will not need the highest strength of manuka, and a UMF10, UMF15, or UMF20+ may will be sufficient for you. However if you do wish to have the very high strength option, then find our UMF25+ available here online or in our store.

New Prices for UMF Manuka Honey

Unfortunately, due to a mixture of increased demand yet a limited supply, plus changes in international exchange rates, prices for the UMF manuka honey have had to increase. The changes were actually due to take effect from the 1st September 2008, however we did our best to stock up at the old prices, and have been able to maintain the old price for almost a month longer than others.

From today though as we get into new stock, we have had to increase our prices on the UMF20+ Comvita honey. To help soften the blow, we have been able to reduce the price for the UMF10+ honey. Whereas previously it was £18.75 for a 350g jar of 10+, it is now £15.95 for a 500g jar. That's a bigger jar at a reduced price.

For the UMF20+, we have managed to improve the discount we offer compared to the suggested retail price. Before we were £2.05 better, and now our everyday discount is £2.50 better than the suggested retail price (and what many other retailers sell at). And we are maintaining our free delivery within the UK for this UMF20+ Comvita manuka honey.

You can find our full range of manuka honeys here.
