Manuka Honey in Germany

The New Zealand Honey Shop is please to say that progress has been made with our new German website. Keeping the same The New Zealand Honey Shop name, it will provide an information source for "Manuka Honig" and offer the same quality Comvita range of products to people in Germany and other German speakers in Europe.

While there is still further translation work to be done, the new site is now operational, and we are pleased to allow our German customers the option of using either our English or German language site.

If anyone has any feedback on the German translation provided, we would welcome all comments, as our aim is to provide the best information in German as possible.

We would also just like to take this chance to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas, and a Happy and Healthy New Year.

UMF25+ Manuka Honey now back in stock

Yes, after quite a few months absence, we are pleased to say that once again we have some of Comvita's UMF25+ Manuka Honey back in stock and available to order.

As production is dependent on nature, there is only a small amount of manuka honey that is produced each year that properly reaches the UMF25+ level. This is why it is not available all the time. While we do now have it in stock again, we cannot be sure how long our supplies will last, and this item will not necessarily be available all year round.

Often you will not need the highest strength of manuka, and a UMF10, UMF15, or UMF20+ may will be sufficient for you. However if you do wish to have the very high strength option, then find our UMF25+ available here online or in our store.

New Prices for UMF Manuka Honey

Unfortunately, due to a mixture of increased demand yet a limited supply, plus changes in international exchange rates, prices for the UMF manuka honey have had to increase. The changes were actually due to take effect from the 1st September 2008, however we did our best to stock up at the old prices, and have been able to maintain the old price for almost a month longer than others.

From today though as we get into new stock, we have had to increase our prices on the UMF20+ Comvita honey. To help soften the blow, we have been able to reduce the price for the UMF10+ honey. Whereas previously it was £18.75 for a 350g jar of 10+, it is now £15.95 for a 500g jar. That's a bigger jar at a reduced price.

For the UMF20+, we have managed to improve the discount we offer compared to the suggested retail price. Before we were £2.05 better, and now our everyday discount is £2.50 better than the suggested retail price (and what many other retailers sell at). And we are maintaining our free delivery within the UK for this UMF20+ Comvita manuka honey.

You can find our full range of manuka honeys here.

Green Honey - Kiwifruit & Honey now available in UK

A Green Honey Outbreak has been spreading through the UK.

Giving you a combination of two of New Zealand's most well known and delicious products - Kiwifruit and Honey.

Be prepared with your favourite bread.

There is a definite novelty factor in terms of how this honey looks. Kids – big and small – can enjoy showing off the shock factor of the unusual green colour, yet be smug that it still tastes great.

Kiwifruit are recognised for being rich in Vitamin C, containing twice the levels found in oranges.

New Kiwifruit & Honey is now available at The New Zealand Honey Shop.

Still with the Kiwifruit theme, there is also a new natural vitamin C supplement based on Green and Gold Kiwifruit - Kiwi-C . Vitamin C supports the body's natural immune responses and is commonly used to help recover from winter ills and to assist in wound healing. You get gold and green kiwifruit, mixed with a natural vegetable glycerine base for a great tasting product. Plus children won't require 'being helped' into taking Kiwi-C as they will enjoy the Kiwifruit taste.

Organic UMF® Manuka Honey now available

You now have an option of organic for your UMF® manuka honey.

Comvita, the world's leading brand, have launched a new manuka honey that is both guaranteed UMF®10+ and certified organic. We are pleased to be able to give you this option, and have some in stock already.

It is an exciting addition to the range, as previously there was only a 5+ organic manuka honey available. For those wanting the the additional proven healing and antibacterial properties of the UMF® label previously there wasn't a certified organic option.

Now there is. Due to the large distances that bees can fly and potentially forage over, it is a trickier process to gain organic certification for honeys.

This new product is certified organic by Agriquality New Zealand, and also carries Organic Certification UK 4 on its label.

It comes in a good size jar of 500g.

You can see this new Organic UMF 10+ Manuka Honey here

New French website established.

We have worked to help the establishment of a new French language website on manuka honey. This will make it easier for French speakers to find information about manuka and UMF honey. Taking part in this project meets one of our aims to help educate people this honey. It will also soon be offering products priced in euros.

The first stage of the site is now live, and can be found at http://www.mieldemanuka.fr - but will continue to be a work in progress as we work with a few other French people to add information and explanations.

Medihoney Cream and Rescue Gel added

We are pleased to let you know of two new products now offered to you, - the Medihoney Moisturising Cream, and Living Nature Rescue Gel.

Medihoney™ Mositurising Cream is an intensive dermatological moisturising cream, containing Active Manuka Honey, Aloe Vera and Chamomile. It is suitable for people prone to eczema, psoriasis, dermatitus and dry skin.

Whereas the ManukaCare 18+ gives you the full benefit of pure UMF® Manuka Honey, it will leave a sticky layer of honey that is not practical for all situations. This Medihoney cream is more of a cream that can be absorbed into the skin without leaving that sticky layer. Although it does contain less of the manuka honey. We carry the 50g tube size.

The Medihoney brand is now owned by Comvita, and nicely compliments their full range of products.

The Living Nature Rescue Gel is to help you with trouble spots. Giving you a soothing gel for blemish-prone skin, and making use of the healing properties of manuka oil and honey. This product is Living Nature's new formula to improve on and replace the highly popular Manuka Oil and Honey Antiseptic Gel (which is no longer available).

Both these new items are now in stock and available in store and online.

New Study Shows Manuka Honey Dressings Decrease Wound Size and pH

A new study, with results recently published in the International Wound Journal (Volume 5 Issue 2 Page 185-194, May 2008) has shown the benefits of manuka honey dressings in reducing wound pH levels and wound size.

The study's aim was to analyse any changes in surface pH levels, and size, of ulcers that were not healing after applying dressings of Manuka honey for 2 weeks.

To quote: "The use of Manuka honey dressings was associated with a statistically significant decrease in wound pH and a reduction in wound size."

It was known that non-healing wounds have a higher alkaline environment, and that the acidic pH nature of manuka honey made it a potentially beneficial treatment for lowering wound pH, which the study's results confirm.

Comvita's Apinate manuka honey dressings were used in this study.

An abstract of the study results can be found here.

More Tui Massage Wax products added

We are pleased to have extended the range of Tui massage waxes that we can offer you, with the addition of two more fragrances.

Orange Spice is a citrusy and fun filled Massage Wax, particularly popular in winter, possibly due to the orange fragrance evoking thoughts of mulled wine.

It is gently warming as well as sedative. The essential oils are both antispasmodic and antidepressant.

Both Orange and Grapefruit are good for fluid retention and cellulite work, Grapefruit in particular being a diuretic, detoxifier and stimulant of the lymphatic system. It is also good for oily skins and acne.

Popular for both men and woman.

Wild Rose Massage Wax is not actually a blend, but only has the essential oil Rosa damascena added to the standard ingredients. The smell of rose is one of the freshest and most well known of the essential oils. It was probably the first flower from which essential oil was ever distilled and can be traced back to 10th Century Persia.

You will now find both these options available on The New Zealand Honey Shop website together with the rest of the Tui massage wax and balms range.

French version of website to be launched

The New Zealand Honey Shop is in process of launching a French version of our website - en Français.

This is the first additional language to be added, and once completed and tested, then other languages may also be added in future.

UMF manuka honey is a fantastic product, able to help people, and the aim is to enable French speaking people to also learn more about it.

Coolmint Propolis Lozenges added

Ok, it may seem a slightly strange time of year to be adding more 'winter wellness' products, however as some people do still get sore throats and coughs, we have wanted to give you an increase choice in flavours.

The Propolis lozenges from Comvita have always been a popular choice to soothe an irritated throat, with both the original aniseed and the lemon and honey flavours regularly chosen.

Now we have added Coolmint to our range, so you have greater choice. Still the same great propolis with UMF10+manuka honey lozenges, just now with an option to have them in Coolmint flavour.

The lovely girls over at Kiss and Makeup (http://www.kissandmakeup.tv) in combination with Hippy Shopper (http://www.hippyshopper.com) have done a video review of their thoughts on the recently launched Huni skincare range.

The review was very favourable, apart from liking the actual product, (it was mainly the every day moisturiser they reviewed) - they loved the smell, and the cute packaging!

You can see it on their YouTube video here:
